(Inspired by Ada Limon)
The glitter in the gutter. The silence before the baby bursts into wails. The toothless smile of the homeless man on the corner. The dropping of the grocery bags, tumbling across the parking lot, and two people showing up to help pick them up. The shoulder drenched with snot and tears from her crumbling on you. When asked how they are doing and they respond honestly. Her lip puckered out in a pout and doing all she can to not curve her lips into a smile towards me. The burley bearded man with a hello kitty bandaid wrapped around his index finger. The sound of a single bird chirping in the dead of winter. The texts you received within seconds of each other - one friend just lost their job and another just delivered her baby. The fever that finally broke - sweat drenched sheets now feel like a baptism.
