Love Is...

Love is ocean

Love is wildfire

Love is the slow trickle of a creek

Love is a candlestick dripping wax down its side

Love is the unfurling of a leaf

Love is the dying of a leaf when the other one unfurls anew

Love is the thumping of her tail on the hardwood floor

Love is the song that makes you close your eyes to drink it in

Love is popsicle dripping down your cheek

Love is dust mites building in the corner of your living room

Love is prayer

Love is humming

Love is whistling

Love is choking back tears

Love is letting the tears fall

Love is dance recitals for three year olds

Love is “I’m sorry”

Love is “thank you”

Love is “help me”

Love is cemeteries

Love is polaroid cameras

Love is crickets chirping on a warm summer evening

Love is sunburnt shoulders and a few new freckles on your nose

Love is laughter that is silent because you can’t breath your laughing so hard

Love is lingering hand holds

Love is airport reunions

Love is arm tickles and foot massages while watching trash tv

Love is inside jokes and nicknames for one another

Love is packing a lunch and leaving a post it note inside

Love is the drink of water touching your dry lips after climbing the steep switchback on the mountain

Love is gravity

Love is homemade sourdough bread

Love is hands covered in sun spots and paper thin skin

Love is canyon

Love is glacier

Love is breath

Love is soil

Love is cycles

Love is death

Love is terrifying

Love is more terrifying without it
