An Attempt To Describe A Class

Some newcomers, some returners, everyone walked in a little timid and shy, and shared polite hello’s and simple introductions. Shoes piled high by the door and an ease began to disperse across the air.

We welcomed ourselves to the cheap wine on the table, but there was nothing but richness poured from the ink of their pens on to the page.

I read the same lines to the group, yet everyone got something entirely different on what inspired them.

We sat in a circle, signifying a line of protection, an endless loop of safety and connection.

Some, excited to speak their words they had discovered within them, others pulled their beanie over their head out of shyness, yet still shared a piece of their heart, their voice steady and louder as they continued on. Some were shaky in their voice as they bravely shared, yet somehow that kind of tone made it that much more powerful to listen to.

No matter how or what was shared, every word was held by the group with tears, laughter, and audible “mmms” and “awwws”.

I don’t know what prayer is, but to watch souls with their heads bowed down and to hear the soft scratches of pen to paper, knowing there is magic in the making, I imagine that’s as close as we can get to knowing what prayer might be.

Some newcomers, some returners, everyone walked in a little timid and shy, and shared polite hello’s and simple introductions. Shoes piled high by the door and an ease began to disperse across the air. Hours later they lingered at the door, arms embracing and heads placed lovingly on each others’ shoulders.

They entered as strangers, but exited as soul mates.
